Develop your knowledge and understanding of ecdysis and dysecdysis in reptiles. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Reptile skin conditions course bundle.

This module looks at pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes of ecdysis and dysecdysis in reptiles, including:
Cause – dehydration, skin infection, skin wounds, burns, scars, ectparasitism, poor or unbalanced diet, suboptimal husbandry and environmental temperatures, stress, metabolic issues.
Signs – snakes shedding in pieces, retained sheds in lizards/chelonian. Terrapins not shedding their scutes properly.
Diagnosis – physical examination.
Treatment – improve husbandry and diet, rehydration, treat underlying disease/skin infection, ectoparasites treatment and control.
Prognosis – fair to good.
